Will Smith has become a house hold name anymore, with his Oscar winning performances and big time movies, but it is always fun to look back on his first work, such as this clip from the Fresh Prince of Bel Air. If you have cable, you can always turn on Nick at Nite to find episodes of this show, making seem like a classic. Don’t you feel old now that a show you watched as a kid is classified as a classic TV show?? You know you are one of these people if every time you hear the beginning,” West Philadelphia, born and raised…”, you just cant help but finish the entire theme song, because you know you know it.
The content of this video makes me laugh so much; Will Smith is a great comic. He can effectively use physical comedy, such as when he lip syncs to his Uncle Phil, and dances around him, expressing his feelings. You can’ help but laugh at the over emphasis of emotion and mouth gestures, not to mention Uncle Phil’s reaction to the display. Compare this performance to his late, more serious work, like his recent movie The Pursuit of Happyness, and it’s almost hard to believe you are looking at the same actor. It just goes to show Will Smith’s broad spectrum of acting ability. Of course, he has not completely abandoned the comedic side of his career, with movies like Men in Black, Wild Wild West, and other comedies. It’s a good thing to, because I find it easier to watch his movies that make me laugh. I never was one for serious flicks.
